Downloading RasMol

Description: RasMol is a molecular visualization tool which is command line and some menu driven
Platform: Windows, Macintosh, UNIX, and others
Web: It can be used as a helper application, though Chime is recommended
Cost: This is a free program that has been around forever

Download:

1. Go to http://www.umass.edu/microbio/rasmol/getras.htm
2. Click on the the link best fits your platform (i.e. PC, MAC, UNIX)
3. Find the program that best fits your computer
4. Download the program into a Folder call RasMol

Set up for Web

Setup Your Web Browser (Netscape 4.0 recdomended)

1. Goto Edit/Preferences....
2. Choose Navigator/Applications (on the left).
3. Click on New Type... (on the right).
4. Fill in:

   	RasMol
   Description of Type	RasMol
   File Extension	pdb
   MIME Type	chemical/x-pdb

5. Under Application click Browse and find the program that you downloaded.
