GeneSpring installations are accomplished as follows. But first please read through this document carefully before attempting the installation to familiarize yourself with the required prerequisites and key steps required for a successful install.

PREREQUISITES:

Static IP Number - You must provide a static IP number for use with the GeneSpring modules. This is necessary because the software is strictly licensed thus we need to monitor use of the package. A static IP number allows us to identify the computer from which you will be using GeneSpring. The IP number can be obtained from you local computer support staff.

Remove Previous Versions of GeneSpring - If you have an existing version of Genespring then please first uninstall the previous version of the software -OR- install GeneSpring GX 10 onto on a new system.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURES:

1) Send your static IP number to our GeneSpring email address . Please do this prior to completing the steps below as we will need sufficient time to place your IP number into our licensing tables. While you could proceed with the process without doing this, the Genespring modules will fail to start since we won't know in advance that you are attempting a connection to our server.

2) Download the installation file - You can download athe GeneSpring GX 10 package directly from the Silicon Genetics site. Click the link to download the package that is appropriate for your platform (e.g. Windows, OSX, Linux).

3) Double-Click the installation file - After the download is complete then you can double click the file to initiate the installation process. There will be a series of screens, which request acceptance of the licensing terms and indication of the desired installation folder. Please click the necessary buttons (e.g. "Next" and "OK") to proceed through the install process.

4) Start the GeneSpring GX 10 application - When you launch the application for the first time, you will see a screen that requests the specification of a licensing method as well as the IP address of the licensing server. Please follow steps A and B as indicated.

	Use the drop down menu option located at the top to select the "SHARED LICENSE FROM SERVER" option
	Enter "gs.bimcore.emory.edu" for the License Server Address

After entering this information click the OK button at the bottom of the screen. After approximately 10 seconds you will see a screen that indicates a validation process after which the GeneSpring GX 10 application will start - complete with a demo project loaded. This is an indication that you are ready to begin work.

Although GeneSpring is downloaded and installed in individual labs across campus, BimCore has licensed only 2 concurrent seats. Please schedule GeneSpring sessions on the calendar, and logoff of your session when you are complete. This will free up the seat for the next person. If you need additional time for calculations, etc., check the calendar and contact the appropriate persons.
