| GCG: SeqLab |
|
SeqLab supplies an X-Windows, graphical user interface to the Wisconsin/GCG package for BIMCORE Sequence Analysis subscribers. (See Instructions on becoming a member) The SeqLab interface is served from the BIMCORE GCG UNIX server "jeeves.bimcore.emory.edu". An existing user account is required to use this resource. Advantages: SeqLab provides an interactive sequence editor, convenient project management capabilities as well as friendly interface for using GCG programs. SeqLab provides a rich visual display of sequence which makes it easier to edit sequences or create and manipulate sequence alignments. Disadvantages: Requires the installation of an "X-Windows Display" server on your Mac or PC . Printing to local devices must be enabled and implemented for each workstation. SeqLab is not usable over dialup connections since it is network intensive. Getting an Account: Send email to wsp@emory.edu requesting a SeqLab account and a site installation. You must be a Sequence Analysis member in order to use this resource. System Requirements: X-Windows Display Servers (supplied freely by BIMCORE)
Due to the network-intense nature of SeqLab and more generally X Windows, dialin users are strongly discouraged from using SeqLab over dialup connections. However Emory dial-up users are considered to be part of the campus network so access via Emory dialup is possible but access will be SLOW. Users of non-Emory sponsored dialup will have to provide a static IP# to obtain access to BIMCORE servers. It is possible for all Emory faculty, staff, and students to dialin to Emory services using their "network" id. If you have forgotten it or do not know what it is then please contact the Emory HelpDesk at (404) 727 - 7777 to find out. They can also provide instructions on using "Emory Connect" to dialin to Emory from home. Supported Versions: Version 10.0 - 10.3 under Solaris 8 Documentation: SeqLab Help is available once you have successfully logged into the system. At any time you may click the "HELP" menu item to receive context sensistive assistance on how to proceed. A limited number of hardcopy SeqLab manuals are also available for distribution. Please send your request for a manual to wsp@emory.edu. Related links:
