GCG: Command Line

Command Line

SeqWeb: Web Interface

SeqLab: Bimcore Desktop

Command line access to GCG is available to BIMCORE Sequence Analysis subscribers. (See Instructions on becoming a member) The GCG command line environment is served in a Solaris/UNIX environment so familiarity with UNIX commands and the associated envrionment is very useful.

Advantages: GCG commands can be used in combination with UNIX programming languages such as Perl, C, and Korn Shell to perform iterative , in-depth analysis of sequence data. Command line users experience fast processing times and complete control over their data and processing options associated with the various GCG programs.

Disadvantages: Requires moderate to strong knowledge of the UNIX environment and associated commnands.

Getting an Account: Send email to wsp@emory.edu requesting a GCG command line account. You must be a Sequence Analysis member in order to use this resource.

System Requirements: Ability to telnet or ssh (preferred) from an Emory network machine to our GCG server "jeeves.bimcore.emory.edu". Emory dial-up users are considered to be part of the campus network so access via Emory dialup is possible. Users of non-Emory sponsored dialup will have to provide a static IP# to obtain access to BIMCORE servers.

It is possible for all Emory faculty, staff, and students to dialin to Emory services using their "network" id. If you have forgotten it or do not know what it is then please contact the Emory HelpDesk at (404) 727 - 7777 to find out. They can also provide instructions on using "Emory Connect" to dialin to Emory from home.

Supported Versions: GCG Version 10.0 - 10.3 under Solaris 8

Documentation: GCG command line information is available via the Web. Information on the UNIX environment including "how-tos" on transferring files between your local workstation and the GCG server can be found at Unix FAQ. A downloadable, in-depth introduction to the UNIX environment is also available.

Command line help is also available once you have logged into the server by using the "genhelp" command. At your login prompt enter the command "genhelp" and you will be presented with a text based help system which can easily be navigated.
